2 of West Virginia’s Biggest Festivals Coming To Bluefield Area This Weekend

bluefield fairsThis weekend is sure to be one of the most exciting of the year, with 2 of West Virginia’s biggest festivals coming to our area on Friday and Saturday.

The first is Bluefield’s 17th Annual Downtown Merchant’s Street Fair. It will be packed with incredible music, dancing, food, games and Bluefield’s annual Downhill Derby. The fair will take place in historic downtown Bluefield and will run from 9am on Friday (July 31st) to 5pm on Saturday (Aug. 1st).

This year the CASE WV Country Kickers will ‘kick off’ the festival at the Chicory Square stage, followed by the award winning Bluefield Dance Theatre’s Randy Lamb Dancers. The Little Miss Downtown Bluefield Pageant will be held Friday afternoon, followed by a pet show and gospel music at night.

Saturday will include a car show in the First Community Bank parking lot, a ‘kids’ corner’ on Raleigh Street, a charity auction in Chicory Square that will benefit Second Chance for Cats, and the Great American Downhill Derby on Raleigh Street, which will begin at 12:30 p.m., followed by live music, food, and games the rest of the day.

bluefield fairs comingThe second major festival is the Mercer County Fair, to be held at the PikeView High School, from noon on Friday to 8pm on Saturday.

This year the fair is hoping to set record attendance numbers with several new attractions. The BSC Robotics Team will be displaying some incredible new creations, in addition to; The “Lotsa Laffs Movie Marathon” sponsored by New River Community & Technical Center; the PikeView High School Bridge Building Class demonstration; the West Virginia Bowhunters Association sponsored 3D Fun Shoot; and West Virginia Championship Wrestling featuring George South and Jason Kincade; as well as the WVU Mascot.

The West Virginia Rodeo will take the stage at 7 p.m. on Friday, and will feature; pole bending, barrel racing, goat tying, break-away roping, chute doggin,’ calf roping, team roping, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, bull riding and mutton bustin.’

The fair will also include the Peters Mountain Antique Tractor Pull, a Classic Car Show, a Fun Dog Show, petting zoo, wood turning demonstrations, 4-H exhibits, agricultural exhibits and plenty more activities.

Also don’t forget that next week, Dancing With The Stars Live will be coming to our area on August 5th.
