After 4 years of seeing the same incredible skyline, Charlotte residents and photographers will finally have some new reasons to stare at our city. Crescent Communities unveiled plans for two very ambitious projects; the first one is a $10.3 million, 27 story mixed use development at the corner of Tryon St. and Stonewall, directly diagonal from the Duke Energy Building, and the second will be a 25-story office tower at Tryon and Third streets.

This first project, which is now being called ‘Tryon Place’ will include a 27-story tower, a park area, street-level retail, and a tree-lined “front porch” plaza on Tryon Street with shaded areas for musicians and food vendors.

Tryon Place’s development plans include a 450-room hotel, 70,000 square feet of retail, including a grocery store, 600 apartments, and up to a 1 million square feet of office space. The designs for Tryon Place are projected to be finished by the end of the year, with construction to start once all of the anchor tenants have signed a lease. The second project will be a 25-story office tower at Tryon and Third streets, the new high-rise will be given the epic name of ‘300 South Tryon’. Groundbreaking is already scheduled for this fall, with a completion date to be sometime in the spring of 2017. The project will include an estimated 650,000 square feet of mostly office space and ground-level retail. (more details – Charlotte Business Journal – 300 Tryon)

This may just be the start of another building boom in Uptown Charlotte. Portman Holdings from Atlanta (built the Westin) has already announced plans to build a 15 story high-rise on top of the Westin’s parking deck. Donald Trump also still has his option on  piece of land in Uptown Charlotte. Now that he has bought and transformed ‘Trump National Golf Club’ on Lake Norman, and purchased a residence there, it seems more likely that he might move forward with his plans to dominate Charlotte’s skyline.
