Flying drones have been in use by the U.S. military for combat and surveillance for years. As technology continues to advance and become more affordable, we are now seeing flying drones being put to use in some of the most creative ways, even though the FAA still says it’s not legal. One of the most impressive uses that has been discovered is in the aid of selling homes by Realtors.
An ever increasing array of companies have been equipping small unmanned aircraft with high-definition cameras and marketing them to Reatlors and real estate marketing companies to capture stunning aerial views of houses and buildings
The most common type of drone uses 4 blades to fly in a remarkably easy and smooth manner, allowing access to both high places and tight spots. Some more advanced drone models come equipped with six blades and have a mounted camera on a gyro that allows for even more turbulent maneuvers while maintaining a stable shot.
These camera-equipped flying machines are ideal for marketing high-end homes.
It costs about $400 to $800 to rent these devices. But you can buy them for much less. There are currently thousands of drones for sale on eBay, a recent “quad-copter” was selling for just $81.
While purchasing a non-weaponized drone is legal, operating it for commercial use may not be.
The government allows people to fly unmanned aircraft for personal use, but the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) says: “If the same person flies the same aircraft and then tries to sell the video, or uses it to promote a business, or accepts payments from someone else to shoot the video, that would be a prohibited commercial operation.”
But the FAA has not enforced this ban for commercial use, so for the time being, it looks like Realtors continue to flock to this new technology to take stunning videos of real estate for sale and lease.
