Charleston is about to welcome one of America’s favorite frozen custard shops, Whit’s, with a grand opening planned at 1989 Maybank Hwy on James Island in the coming months.
Founded by Lisa and Chuck Whitman in Granville, Ohio, in March 2003, Whit’s has grown into a cherished ice cream destination with over 70 locations across 10 states, including two in South Carolina.
Whit’s offers a delightful array of classic frozen custard flavors served in cups or cones. Customers can also enjoy their favorite flavors in shakes, known as ‘Whitsers,’ or customize sundaes topped with a variety of treats like nuts, candies, and fruits.
In addition to their frozen treats, Whit’s also offers grab-and-go quarts and pints, along with a menu featuring classic food items such as hot dogs, chili, and pulled pork barbecue. Many Whit’s locations also cater to dietary preferences with vegan, gluten-free, and sugar-free options available.
