Dorchester Habitat for Humanity, a dedicated nonprofit organization committed to building affordable housing for low-income families, is set to mark a significant achievement with the dedication of its 74th home. The ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 29, at 9 a.m., located at 708 North Hickory Street in Summerville.
In a heartwarming event, the keys to the new home will be handed over to Kartika Brown and her children, recognizing their journey to homeownership. Brown has contributed a remarkable 425 sweat-equity hours towards the construction of her own home, as well as other Habitat homes, and has also volunteered her time at the organization’s ReStore.
The Brown family’s new beginning is supported by a 30-year, interest-free mortgage provided by Dorchester Habitat for Humanity, ensuring a sustainable and affordable path to owning their home. This dedication ceremony not only celebrates the hard work and determination of the Brown family but also highlights the ongoing efforts of Dorchester Habitat for Humanity to address the critical need for affordable housing in the community.
