The Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments (BCDCOG) has just secured $1.2 million from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to focus on affordable housing plans in the region as part of the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) program.
This funding supports phase three of BCDCOG’s TOD plan, specifically targeting affordable housing around the future Lowcountry Rapid Transit System (LCRT). While no immediate physical construction is planned, the goal is to lay the groundwork for future affordable housing developments and ensure housing options remain attainable.
The ultimate aim is to foster walkable communities and enhance residents’ quality of life.
This funding is part of a competitive FTA program that awarded $17.6 million to 20 communities across 16 states. It represents a significant step in BCDCOG’s efforts to advance TOD planning and improve regional accessibility and sustainability.
