In special elections held on Tuesday, two Charleston County municipalities welcomed new council members, and one elected a new mayor.

The ballot included candidates Jody Lynn Rogers and Skip Fink vying to fill the remainder of council member Eddie Ellis’ term. Ellis had announced his resignation in January. Folly Beach Mayor Tim Goodwin expressed gratitude to Ellis for his service in February.

Fink garnered 553 votes, while Rogers received 415, according to results posted on the Charleston County election site.

The town of Kiawah Island also conducted a special election, filling a council seat and the mayor’s position. Mayor John Labriola announced his resignation in January due to changes in the election cycle, with the next election now scheduled for 2025.

Brad Belt and Dr. Michael Heidingsfelder contended for the vacant seat, with Belt clinching the majority with 556 votes, compared to Heidingsfelder’s 221.
