Three warming centers in the Lowcountry are opening this week to provide shelter during cold evenings:

North Charleston:

  • Location: Holy City Missions Winter Warming Shelter, 1444 Remount Road.
  • Open: Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
  • Registration: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., closes next morning at 7 p.m.
  • Services: Meals, shower, clothes, lodging.
  • Transportation: CARTA bus route 13 to Aldersgate.
  • Note: Capacity limited to 75, no pets.

Summerville:

  • Location: Seacoast Summerville Warming Center, 301 E. 5th N. St. (entrance on Gum Street).
  • Open: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday evenings, with potential additional nights.
  • Check-in: 7 to 9 p.m., dismissal at 7:30 a.m.
  • Services: Dinner, cot, shower, breakfast.
  • Note: No animal accommodations.
  • Transportation: Free via TriCounty Link, CARTA Rt. 10 transfer at Trident Medical Center.

Mount Pleasant:

  • Location: Hibben UMC Warming Center, 690 Coleman Boulevard.
  • Open: Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
  • Admission: 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Transportation: CARTA route 13 and pickup from Citadel Square Baptist Church at 6:30 p.m.
