The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) arrested an 18-year-old man Monday evening for carrying a fully automatic firearm on James Island.
London Willie Wright of Charleston faces charges of unlawful possession of a machine gun, according to the CCSO. Deputies stopped Wright near the intersection of Lemontree Lane and Jeffrey Road shortly after 6 p.m. due to suspicious behavior. When deputies approached, Wright fled and discharged a Glock 9mm pistol before throwing it onto a nearby roof.
After apprehending Wright, deputies discovered the handgun had a modified switch, converting it from semi-automatic to fully automatic.
