savannah's new H&mSavannah’s Historic Downtown district has just expanded in a big way. The new 32,000-square-foot building on West Broughton St., home to Swedish retailer H&M, is about to open.

The building has now been under construction for 11 months and some crews are now working around the clock to put the last-minute touches in place to open on schedule. Over a dozen local Savannah companies have worked together over the past year on the design and construction, Ogeechee Steel, Hutson Plumbing company, J&L Glass and Alfa painting. Architect Patrick Phelps of Savannah-based Hansen Architects led the building’s overall design.

The building’s main occupant, H&M, will be offering some of the city’s most trendy clothing for women, men and children as well as a selection of home goods. The company is also still hiring all positions for the new store, from cashiers to managers.
