The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has officially announced they will replace the Don Holt Bridge over the Cooper River.
The upgrade, prompted by safety concerns following the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore, will feature a taller, safer bridge similar to the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge.
Bridges are dominating the news.
And locally, there is great news. @SCDOTPress is showing a 14-foot shared used path for bikes and pedestrians on the new Don Holt Bridge.

While specific construction timelines are pending, this aligns with SC Ports’ efforts to boost Port of Charleston capacity and SCDOT’s plan to expand I-526 to eight lanes.
SC Ports is also deepening the North Charleston Terminal, expecting to handle 5 million containers post-expansion. More details on the new bridge’s specifications and timeline are awaited from SCDOT.
What do you think about the decision?
