Scooter Sweep: Tampa’s River Cleanup Yields Shocking Results

Beneath the tranquil surface of the Hillsborough River lies a startling truth: a trove of discarded electric scooters, abandoned to the currents of neglect. As the latest annual cleanup initiative by Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful unfolds, the scale of this environmental challenge comes to light. Despite concerted efforts to restore the river’s pristine beauty, the task at hand proves daunting, with dozens of scooters and other debris retrieved from its murky depths.

Amidst the murky waters and tangled debris, divers from the Tampa Police Department’s dive team, along with counterparts from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), braved the elements to retrieve discarded scooters, bikes, and other detritus. Their efforts yielded a sobering revelation: 32 electric scooters, along with 12 bikes and 27 traffic cones, were among the haul extracted from the river’s depths.
