South Carolina’s first Whataburger will open on July 15 in Boiling Springs.

The legendary Texas-based chain will have an official grand opening at 11 a.m. at 3647 Boiling Springs Road in Spartanburg County. This expansion marks Whataburger’s presence in 16 states.

Currently, nine more Whataburger locations are under construction in the Midlands and Upstate regions of South Carolina, with four more planned for 2025. Whataburger, founded in 1950 by Harmon Dobson in Corpus Christi, Texas, grew to 600 stores under his wife Grace’s leadership after his death in 1967.

In 2019, the Dobson family sold their majority interest to Chicago-based BDT Capital, which has driven the expansion. The company celebrated its 1000th restaurant in January with openings in Atlanta, Georgia, and Yukon, Oklahoma. A Las Vegas location opened in February.

Whataburger has also confirmed a Charlotte location, set to open later this year. The new drive-thru facility will be in East Charlotte’s Clear Creek Crossings development on Albemarle Road and Rocky River Church Road.
