Chris Griffin, the Police Chief of Sullivan’s Island Police Department (SIPD), has just been placed on administrative leave, as confirmed by town officials.
Griffin has served as the local chief since 2018.
In 2019, Griffin was dismissed from the South Carolina Police Chiefs’ Association for ‘conduct unbecoming of a member’.
In 2021, he was accused of sending sexually explicit and racist messages to several women.
Sullivan’s Island Police Chief Chris Griffin has been placed on administrative leave “pending a personnel matter investigation,” according to town administrator Andy Benke.

The specific reasons leading to Griffin’s administrative leave have not yet been disclosed by officials.
