Investigation Details

Convened by Vice Adm. Peter W. Gautier, deputy commandant for operations, this MBI is the highest level of investigation in the Coast Guard. Upon completion, the Board will issue a report to the Commandant with collected evidence, established facts, conclusions, and recommendations.

The Titan lost contact one hour and 47 minutes into its dive to explore the Titanic wreck on June 18, 2023. The wreckage was later found approximately 300 meters off the Titanic’s bow, resulting in the deaths of all five passengers. Due to capacity limitations, the public is encouraged to view the hearing via live stream.
