ZooTampa mourns the passing of Juliet, one of its oldest and most beloved manatees. The news, shared on Sunday, saddened animal lovers across Tampa Bay. Juliet’s sudden decline marked the end of an era for this iconic gentle sea cow.

Juliet, aged over 65, was among the oldest known manatees, adored by visitors and professionals alike. She arrived at ZooTampa in December 2023 from the Miami Seaquarium, alongside companion Romeo, for urgent medical attention at the David A. Straz, Jr. Manatee Critical Care Center.

Despite efforts to provide the best care, Juliet’s health deteriorated suddenly, leading to her passing overnight. Her size, over 3,000 pounds, and longevity made her a symbol of resilience.

ZooTampa appreciates the support and condolences from the public, recognizing Juliet’s profound connection with people. As the zoo plans for a necropsy to understand Juliet’s health, her legacy lives on in the hearts of many.
