Chances are rising for the formation of the season’s second named tropical storm, Beryl, in the western Caribbean over the weekend or early next week.
Computer models show likely tropical development as a disturbance, Invest 95L, approaches the Caribbean islands late Sunday or Monday.
The tropical storm could then become a hurricane and could swing north toward the Atlantic coast and could affect the lowcoutry toward the middle of next week.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) uses the “invest” naming convention to identify areas being investigated for possible tropical development within the next week.
The NHC now rates the development chances for Invest 95L in the high range, indicating the likelihood of at least a tropical depression forming.
