Massive AT&T Outage Leaves Thousands Without Service Around Charleston

A significant outage hit AT&T early Thursday, affecting thousands of Charleston area customers by disrupting their ability to make calls, send texts, and use the internet.

According to Downdetector, over 64,000 complaints by 8:30 a.m. Eastern, with the disruptions starting around 3:30 a.m. ET. As the nation’s largest carrier with over 240 million subscribers, this outage also impacted other networks, with Cricket Wireless experiencing over 13,000 reports, Verizon over 4,000, T-Mobile more than 1,900, and Boost Mobile around 700.

Despite the widespread service interruption, customers retained access to emergency services via “SOS mode.”

The issue, which trended heavily on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), has not been linked to a cyberattack.

The timeline for restoring full service remains uncertain.
