As you do your grocery shopping in the coming weeks, consider supporting your local letter carrier in a meaningful way. Add some non-perishable food items to your cart such as cereal, pasta and sauces, rice, canned fruits and vegetables, canned meals like soups and chili, 100% juice, peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, as well as canned proteins like tuna, chicken, and turkey.

This year, Saturday, May 11th, marks the 32nd anniversary of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive — one of America’s largest single-day food drives. Every second Saturday in May, letter carriers across South Carolina and the rest of the nation collect non-perishable food donations left by mailboxes. These donations are delivered directly to local food pantries to assist those in need.

Participating is easy: simply place your non-perishable food donations in a bag beside your mailbox on Saturday, May 11th. Your city or rural letter carrier will collect the donations, continuing a tradition that has helped collect over 1.9 billion pounds of food over the past 30 years.
