Charleston’s own Melissa Jefferson has secured an Olympic gold medal in Paris.

Competing in the 4×100 meter relay, Jefferson, alongside Twanisha Terry, Gabby Thomas, and Sha’Carri Richardson, finished with a time of 41.78 seconds, narrowly defeating Great Britain by .07 seconds.

Jefferson, who opened the relay with a split of 11.46 seconds, also won a bronze medal in the 100-meter dash earlier in the Games.

This marks her first Olympic gold and makes her the first Chanticleer to earn an Olympic medal.
