Two Mount Pleasant residents will be honored by the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame at their induction ceremony on Monday evening.

Debbie Antonelli and Otto German, both from Mount Pleasant, will be recognized along with George Bennett of Clemson and Clyde Wrenn of Chester. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.

Antonelli’s “Nothing but Net” event, raising over $1 million for the Special Olympics, highlights her career. Since 1987, she has worked with major networks like ESPN and CBS Sports and became the first woman in 21 years to call an NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament game in 2017. She is a two-time Emmy winner and was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2022.

German, a former basketball star at Moultrie High School and the College of Charleston, was the college’s second Black athlete to receive a basketball scholarship. He was inducted into the school’s athletic hall of fame in 2023.

Bennett, head cheerleader at Clemson in 1955, introduced the tradition of firing a cannon after touchdowns. He became Clemson’s first alumni field representative and was inducted into the Clemson Hall of Fame in 1986.

Wrenn, a Chester native, worked as an assistant athletics director at the University of South Carolina and spent 11 seasons as Clemson’s football recruiting coordinator. He also scouted for the Denver Broncos for two years.
