The landscape in Uptown Charlotte will soon change as the city council unanimously approves the rezoning application for the Panthers’ practice facility. Prior to the vote, council members learned the team will make adjustments to address concerns from nearby residents.
One significant change is the addition of a pedestrian walkway and bicycle access. This improvement addresses a key complaint from locals when the application was first submitted. The zoning committee highlighted numerous changes from the original proposal, leading one council member to recommend approval confidently. The most notable change is the expansion of the walking path to 17 feet to support the Uptown Cycle Link project, which aims to connect over 40 miles of bikeways across Uptown.
Additionally, Panthers LLC has 180 days to establish a $60,000 fund for tree preservation, replacement, and beautification along Cedar Street. District Two representative Malcolm Graham praised the Panthers for collaborating well with neighbors, noting that the project will enhance the community.
Meanwhile, the Bank of America Stadium, home to the Panthers and Charlotte FC, may soon undergo a $1.221 billion transformation. Tepper Sports & Entertainment (TSE) and the City of Charlotte have announced plans for a comprehensive overhaul of the 28-year-old stadium.
Under the plan, TSE will invest an initial $150 million, the City of Charlotte will contribute $650 million, and TSE will commit to an additional $421 million in progressive upgrades over the next 20 years. The revamped stadium will feature:
- A park-like setting and exterior video boards for watch parties
- A new sound system, scoreboard, and video boards
- Social areas with skyline views and improved concessions
- An expanded Team Store for Panthers and Charlotte FC fans
- New seats and upgraded restrooms
- Enhanced accessibility for individuals with disabilities

These enhancements are set to significantly boost the fan experience and community engagement at the stadium.
