charleston soccer clubCharleston will soon have a cutting-edge soccer facility off North US-17 in Awendaw. The South Carolina Surf Soccer Club, in partnership with a local family, has broken ground on this new youth soccer facility.

Phase one of the project will cover 12 acres, featuring over five acres of artificial turf. The land, located off Guerins Bridge Road, has been owned by the McCaskill family since the 1970s.

The facility will include two FIFA-regulated, full-size 11v11 fields and one 9v9 field. It will also have a dedicated goalkeeper training area, a covered pavilion, and a permanent restroom. The 11v11 fields will also be marked for 7v7 and 9v9 games.

Officials from the South Carolina Surf Soccer Club have discussed this project for about three years. They believe Charleston’s growth has created a high demand for such a facility. SC Surf serves over 900 local families and aims to make soccer accessible to all players. The facility will cater to different skill levels and ages.

Phase two of the project is awaiting approvals, expected this summer. This phase will add a full-sized grass field and a parking lot.

The foundation also plans to conserve a significant portion of the remaining land as green space. They are seeking a local partner to optimize the use of the 104 acres. Officials aim to complete phase one within seven months and open by Labor Day.
