In a significant milestone, Temple Terrace celebrated the opening of a new VA Clinic dedicated to enhancing mental health services for veterans. The clinic is poised to address a spectrum of cases, ranging from substance abuse to PTSD, with a special focus on caring for homeless veterans.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony, hosted by the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital, took place on Friday, January 19, 2024, at 8451 Temple Terrace Highway, Tampa, FL 33637.

Notable attendees, including keynote speaker Dr. Shereef Elnahal, Under Secretary for Health, Veterans Health Administration, joined federal, state, and local leaders for the ceremony.

Following the formal event, attendees participated in a reception and explored the facility during tours from 12:15 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

During the opening, VA health enrollment and eligibility staff actively enrolled veterans for VA Health care services. Veterans brought valid identification and a copy of their Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (DD Form 214) to receive services.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony symbolized the completion of a project initiated in 2016 with grant funding that consolidated multiple mental health programs into one 137,000 square foot facility.

The facility, strategically located on Temple Terrace Highway just west of U.S. 301, provides a full range of outpatient care for substance abuse, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and various general mental health conditions.

Among its features is a 30-bed residential substance abuse program providing detox and comprehensive treatment. The design of the building prioritizes care in a serene environment, offering amenities such as a healing garden, a passive meditation walkway, basketball courts, and community spaces with grills.

The Temple Terrace VA Clinic stands as a testament to the commitment of providing holistic and supportive mental health services for veterans, creating a comforting and healing space for those in need.
