Berkeley County Government and Berkeley Habitat for Humanity are celebrating the progress of their community housing project with a ribbon-cutting event today.

The project, focused on the Wall Street Community, first began in May 2022 to develop affordable housing.

The first phase, now complete, involved rebuilding Hutchinson Lane and adding essential infrastructure like water, sewer, and road improvements. With this foundation in place, Habitat for Humanity plans to build six new homes, adding to the 22 already constructed in the area. One home is finished, and another is underway, with plans to start two more early this year.

The project is supported by a $200,000 grant from the Berkeley County Government’s Community Development Block Grant Program.
