Liberty University President and conservative political activist Jerry Falwell Jr. just released a statement about the governor of Virginia’s new face mask requirement, saying he would only be willing to wear a mask with blackface on it.
In a tweet posted this afternoon, Falwell uploaded an image of his custom designed mask along with a message saying:
“I was adamantly opposed to the mandate from
@GovernorVA
requiring citizens to wear face masks until I decided to design my own. If I am ordered to wear a mask, I will reluctantly comply, but only if this picture of Governor Blackface himself is on it!

The image Falwell put on his mask was taken from an old photo from Governor Northam’s 1984 Eastern Virginia Medical School yearbook.
Back in February of 2019, Northam confirmed he was the man wearing blackface in the photo and called it “clearly racist and offensive” in a public statement, he also apologized for the decision to paint his face black when he was in med school and for the hurt the decision caused.
What do you think about Falwell’s mask and the tweet he released this afternoon?
