The Dorchester County Council has unanimously approved a contract for the construction of a massive new, state-of-the-art senior center in St. George.

With a resounding 7-0 vote, council members have greenlit plans to develop a spacious and modern senior center on a 2.75-acre site adjacent to the Dorchester County Courthouse and other recreational amenities.

This new center comes as a much-needed upgrade from the existing Sojourner Senior Center, which has struggled to accommodate the growing number of seniors in the community. Members of the Dorchester Seniors Incorporated group express that this decision has been years in the making and is a significant step forward.

The upcoming center will serve as a replacement for the current facility, offering a safe and inviting environment for seniors to dine, relax, and engage in social activities. LaQuinta West, the Executive Director, emphasizes that the aim is to model the new building after a successful construction project in Summerville, ensuring that it meets the needs and expectations of the senior community in St. George.
