south carolina tourismFor the third straight year, South Carolina has once again hit record tourism numbers, generating over $19 billion last year, according to Duane Parrish, the Director of South Carolina’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism.

The total figure was up about 5.5 percent, or about $1 billion, from the previous year. Our state’s hotel occupancy hit just over 62% – an increase of about 2.1% from the previous year.

Revenue per room, an important gauge of industry health, hit about $65 — an increase of 7% and better than the national growth rate of 6.3%.

What’s even more encouraging is that tourism numbers increased throughout the state, not just in the coastal region. Columbia, Greenevill, and Rock Hill all saw dramatic improvements in both numbers and dollars spent.
