South Carolina has just officially been crowned the fastest growing state in 2023.
A new report by the US Census reveals that South Carolina led the nation in population growth, with a 1.7% increase from July 2022 to 2023. This makes it the fastest-growing state in terms of percentage growth.
In terms of numeric growth, Texas leads with an addition of 473,453 people, followed by Florida with 365,205. South Carolina ranks fifth, adding 90,600 people, bringing its total population to approximately 5.37 million.

Overall, the South dominates in population growth, contributing 87% of the total U.S. increase last year. The Midwest saw a slight growth of 0.2%, while the West also experienced a modest increase. The Northeast was the only U.S. region with a population decline, losing about 43,000 people, a smaller decrease compared to previous years.
