Trader Joe’s is about to double its presence in the Charleston area with the opening of a new store in Mt. Pleasant’s Sweetgrass Corner Shopping Center.
This addition aims to address the high traffic and parking challenges faced by the existing store on Johnnie Dodds Boulevard.
For several months, Trader Joe’s has been actively searching for new sites across the Lowcountry to expand its reach.
The current store at 401 Johnnie Dodds Blvd., a bustling hub since its 2011 opening, was formerly the site of Hungryneck Antique Mall from 1993 to 2011.
Spanning 90,000 square feet, the Sweetgrass Corner Shopping Center was purchased by Continental Realty Corp., a Baltimore-based company, for $17 million in 2022.
The establishment of this new East Cooper store underscores Trader Joe’s dedication to meeting the increasing consumer demand in the Charleston region.
