In a significant expansion of its emergency care services, Trident Health today revealed plans on Tuesday for a new $15 million free-standing emergency department on Johns Island, marking the latest in a series of developments aimed at enhancing healthcare accessibility in the region. This announcement follows closely on the heels of the recent inauguration of their James Island emergency department and the disclosure of intentions to construct a 50-bed hospital on Johns Island just four months ago.
Slated for construction by year’s end on Maybank Highway—the same location as the proposed hospital—the new emergency department will feature 11 patient rooms, including a specialized trauma room. It will also offer diagnostic labs and provide imaging, stroke, and behavioral health services. This development is poised to significantly bolster the healthcare infrastructure on Johns Island and surrounding areas.
Trident Health officials highlighted the critical need for such an expansion, noting that over 170,000 individuals sought emergency care at Trident facilities last year alone. The Johns Island emergency department is set to become the fifth of its kind under the Trident Health umbrella, further solidifying the organization’s commitment to delivering timely and comprehensive emergency services across the region.
The official announcement of the new facility is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, marking a milestone in Trident Health’s ongoing efforts to meet the growing healthcare needs of South Carolina’s communities.
