US Airforce Building New 64 Acre $160 Million Base Along Charleston’s Cooper River

The US Airforce is about to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for their newest Air Force base to be built right here in the Charleston area.

The new $160 million base, spanning 64 acres along the Cooper River, will be designed to support the operations of the five national security cutters based in Charleston, along with their crews and support staff.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled to take place tomorrow morning, January 26, at 9:15 a.m.

The completion of the new base is anticipated by the end of 2026.
