Miss New York Wins 2015 Miss America Pageant For Third Year In A Row

For the first time in history, one state has won the Miss America Pageant for 3 straight years in a row. The 2015 Miss New York, Kira Kazantsev has just been crowned Miss America 2015, marking the third year in a row that a contestant from her state has walked away with the crown in our nations most significant pageant pageant.

She received the crown from last year’s Miss America, Nina Davuluri from Syracuse, NY, and Nina received her crown from the 2013 Miss America, Mallory Hytes Hagan, who is from Brooklyn, NY.

Kazantsev of Manhattan received the crown Sunday night at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall, for her talent portion, she sang Pharrell’s song “Happy” while sitting cross-legged on the stage and banging a red plastic cup on the floor. This video quickly went viral on social media;

Kazantsev said she was inspired by the 2012 movie “Pitch Perfect” in which Anna Kendrick’s character auditions for an a capella group by performing a similar ‘red cup’ song. She also said she wanted to inspire future pageant performers to feel free to perform any act they wanted, no matter how unique or ‘out-of-the-box’.

The issues she plans on focusing on for the next year are; combating sexual assault in the military, and speaking out against domestic violence.

She has now begun her year long speaking tour that will have her traveling at least 20,000 miles each month.
