Savannah police officers responded to a 911 call at a Savannah homeless shelter after a 48-year-old woman staying there had been kicked in the chest and assaulted, then forced into a Dodge pickup.
As officers were driving to the scene, they noticed a suspicious Dodge pickup truck, and when it passed by, the two victims being held at knifepoint began screaming for help. Police blocked the truck driving north on Randolph street, and immediately pulled the truck over, quickly bringing the kidnapping to an end.
Freddie Greene Jr., 52, was arrested and charged with battery, aggravated assault and two counts of kidnapping.
Police identified the truck’s owner when it passed by and the two victims being held at knifepoint began screaming for help. Police blocked the truck driving north on Randolph street. Inside were Greene, the 48-year-old woman and a 59-year-old man who owns the truck.
Detectives learned that Greene and the woman had formerly been in a relationship and that Greene had physically assaulted her and forced her into the truck along with the second man.
Greene has an extensive history with Savannah law enforcement dating to 1985.
