The South Carolina Statehouse, along with several others nationwide, were evacuated due to a bomb threat. The email threat, sent to officials in multiple states early in the day, led to brief interruptions in government activities and evacuations at some state capitols.
The South Carolina Department of Administration received the threatening email around 7:45 a.m., claiming an explosive device was inside the State House, as stated by Kyle McGahee of the Department of Public Safety.
The FBI acknowledged the receipt of several similar threats at state Capitol buildings. The agency is collaborating with state, local, and federal law enforcement to collect and respond to this information.
No actual explosives have yet ben discovered, and the threats have now been deemed hoaxes by federal authorities.
