South Carolina is set to welcome its first nitrogen fast-freeze ice cream shop.
Chill-N Nitrogen Ice Cream will debut in Hilton Head later this year, with a shop opening in Bluffton at 65 Towne Drive, Unit 65 in Belfair Towne Village II. New franchisee Derek Cohen, who recently acquired development rights for Hilton Head and Savannah, Georgia, will own and operate the shop.
Cohen, a United States Marine Corps veteran, plans to retire soon to focus on his new venture. He aims to bring the Chill-N experience to the Charleston area.
The Bluffton Chill-N will feature the brand’s newest prototype, incorporating a new nitrogen system that reduces store investment costs by 20%, increases production efficiency, and enhances the customer experience.

Cohen will hire about 15 new employees for his first shop and plans to open a second location in Savannah, Georgia.
Chill-N, founded in Miami’s Village of Pinecrest ten years ago, has developed a loyal following. The brand has nearly a dozen shops in high-demand markets and boasts the unique distinction of never closing a location.
Here’s how Chill-N works: Customers choose a portion size, an ice cream base (milk, yogurt, or alt-milk options like coconut, almond, or oat), and a flavor. Then, premium toppings, including candies, cookies, cereal, fresh fruit, sauces, nuts, and even Cuban coffee, are added. Each scoop is hand-crafted to order and flash-frozen on the spot using liquid nitrogen at -320° Fahrenheit. This unique process results in fresh, rich, and creamy ice cream.
Charleston residents can look forward to enjoying this innovative ice cream experience soon.
