Bruce and Virginia Russell win the lotteryFormer teachers and school principals Bruce and Virginia Russell from Tazewell County just won $1 million from the Virginia State Lottery ticket.

They initially had no clue that they were holding a winning ticket. They decided to drive to the Lottery’s Southwest Virginia Customer Service Center in Abingdon to find out that they were the big winners.

They won the ultimate prize in a game called The Color of Money, bought at the Fas Mart, 3121 West Cedar Valley in Cedar Bluff. The couple chose to take the one-time cash option of $537,393 (before taxes), instead of receiving $1 million in payments over 30 years.

The store also received a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
