augusta-outlet-mallNorfolk is about to be home to one of the largest outlet malls in the state of Virginia. The Simon Property Group has announced plans to invest $75 million to build a “Premium Outlets” mall at Northampton Boulevard off I-64, replacing part of the Lake Wright Golf Course, a property that Norfolk has owned for almost 50 years.

The city council will be approving $2.5 million for the waste-water installation at their upcoming meeting this week. “Part of the agreement is the city needs to make infrastructure improvements in that area,” Lori Crouch commented, a spokesman for the city.

Once approved, the city’s economic development authority will finalize the deal next month with Simon Property Group.

The project significantly benefit Norfolk, as well as the surrounding region, including Virginia Beach. A new road into the shopping center would be built, which would extend Wesleyan Drive to Miller Store Road.

“The roads are something we have been wanting to get done for a while. We will do whatever we can to support this project,” Mayor Will Sessoms recently remarked.

Simon’s Property Group has one of the largest portfolio of malls and outlet centers in the world, including 79 outlet centers worldwide. Locally, they also own Williamsburg Premium Outlets and Chesapeake Square Mall.

Many of the stores have already started hiring for customer service and management positions. If you would like to browse all jobs now available in the Norfolk area click here.
