Amsterdam pedestrian bridge albanyThis week construction officially began on what has become one of the most controversial building projects in recent Upstate NY history.

The $16.5 million pedestrian bridge in downtown Amsterdam has been in the planning stages for decades and many continue to believe it will cost the state too much.

Supporters of the project will help support the city’s economy by connecting the south side neighborhoods and Erie Canalway Trail with Riverlink Park and downtown on the north side.
