Charleston BBQ Joint Ranked Among Yelp’s ‘Top 100 Places to Eat for 2023’

Yelp just released their 7th annual ‘Top 100 Places to Eat for 2023’ and one North Charleston BBQ joint landed among the top 35 in the nation.

Lewis Barbecue off N. Nassau St. in Charleston’s NOMO district was ranked #34 on the list, just in front of Daybreak Pleasant Street in Gainesville, FL (#35) and Otis Restaurant in Brooklyn, NY (#36).

The local BBQ joint is known for their Texas-style smoking and sauces and makes what many consider to be the best brisket in the Carolinas.

Today’s TBT takes me back to last Sunday at @lewisbarbecue in Charleston, South Carolina. This is some fine Texas style bbq with a lot of flavor smoked into the meat. I went with the chopped brisket, pulled pork, pork spare ribs, and the mac and cheese for my side, the pickled veggies were complimentary. The sauces were tangy and original bbq, to which I preferred the tangy for its vinegar base. To determine the ranking, Yelp analysed the top restaurants by the number of reviews and their overall rating in 2023 across the U.S., with and based the representation of each place on its share of top-rated restaurants nationally. They then tweaked the list with feedback and recommendations from their Community Managers around the country.
