Reggie Burgess is set to be inaugurated as North Charleston’s first new mayor in nearly three decades on Tuesday.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Charleston Area Convention Center. Burgess, who was the chief of the North Charleston Police Department from 2018 to 2023, will take over from Keith Summey.

Summey, having served as mayor since 1995, chose not to run for re-election.
